Should I be worried about his weight loss?
ByLast month at 7 months Noah weighed 22.5 lbs. Well, we weighed him, so I guess it could be off. This morning(he turned 8 months yesterday) when I took him to the doctor he weighed 21.12 lbs.
Is this anything to worry about? Or should I chalk it up to the diarrhea he’s been having due to his teething? He also just started scooting around on his bottom and is, in general, moving around more(aside from crawling, he hasn’t mastered that). So could it be due to him being more active?
I would gues its the more BM’s and the fact that he is more mobile. But my best bet is…cus he is more active. Just keep the calories flowin.

I wouldn’t worry unless it goes down even more. I noticed when I weighed my kids at home they always weighed a little less at the doctors. At 6 months I weighed my son at 21# and he had his checkup a couple days later at was barely 20#.

illness and being an active child wil account for his weightloss [which was only a few oz]
my son from his 15[?] month to his 18 month appt only gained like 2oz…… he’d been sick, we’d been travelling and he runs around all the time….
also babies eventually start leveling of their weight gain and they don’t gain as fast…also has he had any diet changes lately
I wouldn’t worry especailly since he is becoming more mobile now and he has had diarrhea…
don’t worry…. he’s fine

He is much more active than he was a few months ago. He is probably getting exercise, and burning fat.

He has probably lost a lot of water due to the diarrohoea. Also if he is more active and possibly eating less due to illness (?).
smaller diet + exercise = weight loss
If he is still losing weight when he regains his appetite then I’d say it was a cause for concern, right now, just keep and eye on him.

most babies start to lose a few pounds when they start moving around. Just make sure you dont water down his formula if he’s bottle-fed and when he starts eating more solids he will pick up again.

theres really not a significant difference so i wouldnt be too worried unless it continues to drop. ive noticed my son does tend to ‘weigh less’ when he is weighed at the doctors office than when we weigh him at home; just the difference in scales. but he could have lost a little due to the loose bm’s. i dont think its from being more mobile though. as long as he is still eating the same, he should be fine!

Since he gained so well from 0-7 months I wouldn’t worry about it. Most babies do gain more slowly once they get active around 7-8 months. 22.5 pounds was on the bigger side if I am correct and 21.12 is still very acceptable. Don’t worry.
Also, since you used different scales the first weight at 22.5 was not accurate. All scales weigh a little different.

I wouldn’t worry because the first time you weighed him, you did it at home and it could be off from the doctors scale.

I know I worry about weight too! I worry b/c she’s breast fed and my entire family is like is she eating or getting enough? b/c none of them do. So it gets to me.
I think your boy’s weight loss is due to the runs, that makes you loose water weight for sure. Also when they get more mobile they tend to loose or plateu. Plus weighing on you scale could def be off compared to Docs office—-their scales even vary quite a bit from Doc to Doc and Ped—I’ve experienced that almost a 5 oz diff sometimes in the same day.
I love your new pic by the way, he’s adorable, you;ve inspired me to do some sort of Santa hat pic!

He’s crawling, I’l wager! He’s burning off the weight.
The thing with babies is they’re built to survive, the human hasn’t evolved much since we were cave people, we gain weight for strength and warmth then go and burn it when we move….that’s what he’s doing so long as he’s still eating, he’ll tell you when he’s hungry.
Best Kez x
