How many kilojoules do I need to consume per day to lose weight?

By admin

Hi. I am a 52 yr old female and I would like to lose weight. I can’t afford to join one of the weight loss programs like Weight Watchers. Can anyone offer any advice? I know I need to exercise etc. In the past I counted calories, but now that I live in Au. I’m not sure how many kilojules I need. Please only serious replies only. Thanks in advance!

To answer your question directly:

The number of kilojoules needed daily varies with gender, body size and physical activity. Being more active and having a larger body size increases daily kilojoule needs, while older people tend to need less. The average woman needs about 9000kJ a day, and 6000-8000kJ to lose weight.

To lose weight, you need to get your body to use up these stores of fat. The most effective way to do this is to:
1.reduce the amount of calories you eat 2.increase your levels of activity.
Introduce changes gradually-Small changes can make a big difference. One extra biscuit a week can lead you to gain 5lb a year – cut that biscuit out of your diet and you’ll lose the same amount.
Increase your activity levels-There are lots of ways to increase the amount of activity you do. Team sports, racket sports, aerobics classes, running, walking, swimming and cycling will all improve your fitness levels.

Reduce your daily calorie intake by 500. Fill up on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. Eat smaller portions. Do not restrict any food groups. Switch to low fat or fat free dairy products. Add small servings of nuts into your diet. Drink 8 glasses of water daily.
